Even though we’re sitting writing this in strong winds and hoping nothing gets blown into the neighbours’ fields, it is so lovely to see signs of spring all round us, including the primrose and daisies which have made an appearance and reminded us of all the other flowers which we’ll soon be seeing.
We’ve been busy since we made the last flower and veg sales of last year. Thanks to a grant from Business Doncaster, we’re now able to look across the field and see our brand new polytunnel. We are really excited about this because of the additional cut flowers we are going to be able to grow, and because the polytunnel will help us extend our season and give us produce for sale next winter and spring. We’re looking forward to this new chapter very much indeed.
We have increased our growing space this year by an additional acre. We will be devoting this to our vegetable crops, allowing us to plant more perennials and introduce an agroforestry area, growing a diverse range of trees, shrubs and veg together. We’ve been learning more and more about this approach from other farmers over the past couple of years and we’re excited to roll our sleeves up and get planting this month.
Veg boxes will be back on sale from late May – we can’t wait to share our expanded range of vegetables with our local customers. Edible flowers will go back on sale through the website at the same time – all of our April flowers are committed to pre-orders.
Get in touch if you’d like to know more, and come back and see our next update from the farm soon.
